76 - 900SS ecletric ignition
Hi All
Can someone tell me how reliable the original electronic ignition system is on a 76 - 900SS ???
Can one covert to the Bosch system without to much trouble or is it not worth doing ?

I believe they have the same electronic ignition system as the 860GTs and GTSs. Some people claim they are not particularly reliable but I never had any problems with my 860. The ignition advance is supposed to be more abrupt than with the Bosch system.
I doubt very much that you could convert to the Bosch system.

Was it you who was using the Ignitech system on one of your bikes Martin?
If so how did it go?
If not I am running one on my VFR and find it pretty good. http://www.ignitech.cz/

Interesting read to say the least ,
I like the fact that you can fine tune the advance curve via a laptop with the software supplied once the unit is installed
I have sent them an email with some questions of my own , this might well be a good system to buy as the ignition modules are no longer required
Thanks for posting the link to the other forum her is the link to IgniTech

Martin, The original Ducati electronic ign. was very unreliable.Even fresh out of the box you could lose one or both cyls. when hot. I once went through 3 stators one race weekend. If you have one that works minimize the load on it by running your plug gap at .020". It appears the Ignitech syst. is for the later Bosch systems. Steve used to list a replacement setup made in Germany I think it was made by DMG. There is a thread on this forum somewhere about it.

Steve the way I read it, this Ignitech unit hides anywhere you like you could even leave the ign boxes bolted to make it look the same and since it utilizes the original pick-ups the wire leaving the side cover will remain the same , there is a discount to be had if more than one unit is bought go you halves if you like after I find out a little more about them
The Ducati electronic ign. dosen't use seperate pickups like the Bosch system. The whole mess is potted in the stator assy. It has coils that generate voltage to fire the ign. coils and trigger coils to tell them when. It may be possible to use the trigger side if you can determine which of the three wires does what. But I think even they are interconnected. And given the stellar performance they have provided I don't even think they are good for paperweights. The DMC setup would be unnoticable if the control box is mounted up under the tank. I remember a company called Silent Hektik also has a similar setup for the early 860,900. I have an old Lucas Rita system on my 900 and it works pretty well but dosen't look original and is not available any more anyway.
