1980 Darmah SSD in France

Post by guillaume69 »

Greetings to you all.

Writing this from Lyon area, France.

I joined the bevel owners community at the beginning of this year. Not new to Ducatis, but definitely to bevels. And for that, I chose a later series 1980 Darmah SSD recently imported from Japan, where it first got registered in 1990. It’s whereabouts before that is a mystery, but statistics suggested Oz down under.

This bike is absolutely fantastic. 21.000 km on the clock. One may call it « an affordable vintage ride ».

Bike ID numbers are:
- Frame DM900SD 951021
- Motor DM860 904800

I have been posting about this bike on other forums (UK and French) mainly about restarting it after 20 years in storage. Dry storage, I may add, as it was really well preserved, with no corrosion at all. So I opted to not restore it. Just a deep clean, big service, some necessary upgrades (pick-up wires and the likes) and that’s it. As a result, it now looks like a well cared for 21.000km bike from 1980. Which I love.

I will spend some time documenting this bike on here as a potentially useful addition to the wealth of information this forum already provides. My deep thanks go to the community and admin and owner.

The attachment tool doesn’t seem to work for me (using iPhone). Looking to share a couple pics!

Beautiful SSD you have. Your file size is too large and you are not pointing to the actual photo but to a place where the photo is... suggest you download your photo, resize it smaller then use the "attach photo" option (choose EDIT to your post to find this at the bottom). Thats what I did for you above.

Thanks a lot for helping with this, Steve. And for managing my first pic to finally show. -*!^-

However, no matter how hard I try with the « attach photo » tool, I only get a « http error » message. And as far as file size is concerned, I tried with downloaded pics from other threads on this forum, so theoretically good in terms of size, and get exactly the same result, including the pic you snipped for me in the above post…

I do not understand what’s going on but I’ll keep trying.

I have now resized the photo I am trying to add to a ridiculous 51k, 300x289…

When trying to upload it from my iPhone, the « attach » button at the bottom keeps sending http error messages.

When I create a link pointing to my GooglePhoto albums, and use the photo icon at the top with the photo URL, it gives me the question mark again:

Image

Steve, what exactly did you do to my previous photo to get it from question mark icon to actually displayed?

In other words, how did you generate this link?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AP ... authuser=0
Which seems to work with the Image fonction when this one generated with google photos does not?

PS: I have read the how to message about posting photos. Several times.

PPS: As I start feeling a little frustrated and stupid, I would like to add that I have been a very active forum person for the past 20 years on numerous software versions, and never had any such issues with posting pics…
