1980 MHR with 900ss fairing

Heres some photos of my unrestored (apart for the 900ss fairing) 1980 MHR. Found in a farm shed after being laid up for several years. 18k kms and I am the 3rd owner. I've put the 900ss fairing on so that the engine can be seen (as well as heard). Lovely to ride and under a medium term rolling tidy up. Replacement tyres 2010 (any preferances? UK tyres).

Yeah, I`m with you. Why would you cover up one of the prettiest motorcycle engines of all time?? Nice looking bike.

They sure look nice with the SS fairing; great find! I took the one piece fairing off my own bike and have not put it back becuse it's a total pain; you cannot check the oil or even the horizontal spark plug without at least dropping the fairing! Your bike is not one of those UK certificate bikes, but I wonder if the frame number is under 200?

A much discussed topic (almost as much as, "Which oil should I use?"), both here and elsewhere ....

Avon Roadriders or Bridgesone BT45s for me. Avoid Metzelers.

Hi Bruce,

Ta. While not wishing to start a tire thread (altho' I could say, "Why not ...?)

What mileage do you get out of the Pirellis? I know a Laverda rider who thinks they're ok, but I think he said they didn't last too long? Might be his style of riding, mind :-) (or standards of bike maintenance ...)

I have to admit I just put the Pirelli's on last summer and I made the choice because they were the only ones available where I live. I can't comment on how long they last because of their relative newness. I can say that they stick like glue and seem to quicken up the steering noticeably. The bike is almost tossable.

I have a feeling that big Laverdas would go through any tire pretty quickly.
