860 GT valve adjuster screws

Post by TuT »

Glad to have discovered this forum. Hopefully I'll be able to add to the knowledge base at some point. In the meantime ...

... I have a 1975 860GT that I bought used some 17 years ago. I rebuilt the engine when the ignition stator gave out and I replaced that with a Kokusan electronic ignition kit from Syd's Cycles (via Pro Italia). Well, everything worked out quite well.

Anyway, the valve adjuster screw for the vertical exhaust broke off at the adjuster nut. So, now I have to consider a replacement source. Either I find someone with an old non-desmo motor who is willing to part with an original part or I go wiith the Porshe 911 suggestion (gathered from the parts interchangability list). I searched for some prices and availability and found prices to be just a little bit outlandish from the Porche restoration community.

Then, by chance, I stumbled upon this:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Prod ... pId-467331

What can I say? J.C. Nitwit is looking quite promising at the moment coming in at a scant $17.99 for a set of 8. J.C. Whitney calls them "Swivel-foot Valve Adjusting Screws" and their part number (SKU#) is ZX378589A.

I thought I'd vent my excitement and pass along the info for anyone else who might be in the market to replace those aging (or maybe over-torqued) valve adjuster screws.

I've got nothing to hide when it comes to what I ride.

Regards and utmost respect to all the Ducati fanatics out there,

TuT,

Thanks for the tip. Have you installed them yet? Did they work OK?

Hey TuT, Greetings, from one newbie, to another!!! Exellent sourcing, on those screw adj., for the 860. I've got one also, and am going to check the fit on my shim application. When you said Porsche, I thought VW!!!! they can be sourced in scores of VW parts people, scat, bowwow,ect.. cheack in "hot Volkswagon' magazine .They were origonally adapted from mazdas, in about the early 80's. good call, they are trick!!The biggest consideration, would be clearance between, valve end/ shim, ad rockerset nut, as the swivel foot is, somewhat tall. they would transfer lift very evenly. I wonder, if our race brothers, use them? thanks TuT, good one!!!!!! jim~motercyclenthusist
