G'DAY BEVEL HEADS - help wanted!

Carb leak is another easy one. Just get a new fire washer, available from bevel part out lets of perhaps your local bearing service. The oil leak you speak of could be coming from a few different places. Be careful with oil leaks. Sometimes it`s easy to mistake the source. Gravity and wind can make it seem like it`s coming from where it`s not. Wipe it down, take it for a short spin and check again. Still can spot it?? Go for another spin this time a little longer. Leaks at the bottom of the motor could be coming from sproket seals, shift shaft seal and then just gravitate to the bottom of the motor. Give `er a good rub-a-dub then take `er for a razz.

Btw, the seal on the bottom of the crankcase may be missing either because the cases have been split; or simply 'cos it's fallen off ...

P.s . When Lumpy says 'fit a new fire washer', I think he means a new FIBRE washer. While I'm not sure what a fire washer is, I don't think I'd want one on the bottom of any of my carburettors

You mean this one, Paul?



That's the head of the dip stick. Soft as a very soft thing, as you can see from the graunch marks (try to always use a ring spanner or socket on it and jar it, don't ease it, loose). Has an alloy washer underneath to seal it. Just dress up the old washer or, better, replace with a new one (having first removed any bits of road gravel 'n stuff, 'natch).

Also, the seal on the bottom of the case looks different to the other pictures that I've seen, ie: it doesnt have the molten metal seal. Presumably it's been opened and re-sealed?

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Yes that is Leak #2, or at least I think that's where it's sprung from. Down to Bunnings for a new Hex set...and by the look of it, I'll be buying a new bolt and washer for the dip stick hole.
