Clutch drum annular bearing orientation

I didn't take enough notice oh so loong ago when removing the clutch bearings and now I can't figure out which is the right way for the rear annular thrust bearing. Is there a wrong way?
The two pictures I've found on the net so far each indicate a different rotation. I've gone for thrust face inside the drum but I'm thinking I got it wrong ????
....And while you're here, the workshop manual for an SD shows a shim between the spacer and clutch drum which doesn't show up on some parts lists (ie on Bevel Heaven - Manuals) but does on others (Back to Classics) and wasn't installed on mine. Is the difference a print omission or the difference between the some that had annular and those that had standard ball bearings? Presume its for pre-load. Any ideas how to set that up if so?
