Missing some thing, dont think so, if the new spokes are longer they wont fit, unless the rolled thread on them is the same length as the old ones , once the rim is laced up you can trim down the end of the spoke that protrudes out past the end of the nipple into the tube area. But as you said you cant get them to tighten up , so thats not the case. Best thing to do is take a sample of your spokes ,tag them with how many spokes of each lenght you need, some wheels have different lenght spokes from one side to the other side of the wheel , same as front and rear wheels may differ, send your tagged samples to the spoke maker and have them made them as per your sample, cant be wrong then.

you need to specify how you are measuring the spoke length.
Buchanan's measures their spoke kits from the [threaded] end of the spoke to the inside of the bend where it goes through the hub, or if no bend, to the inside of the flare part.
I will be stocking the full lineup of buchanan spoke kits for Ducati both singles and twins, I placed my order last week. I will have everything spelled out with photos and schematics so that you get what you need for your particular setup.
