hi all, have recently bought a 900 sd(ssd not sure as i get a bit confused by all the engine nos etc).She is clean and it was love at first sight when i first went to view.Since riding i have fallen even more in love , especially after carrying out tips on here for setting the carbs up ,a noticable difference in forward movement ! Ive owned plenty of bikes over the years but the way she handles suits me down to the ground and i always get the urge to cuddle her when im in the workshop ( i think i need to get out more).

a couple photos and I can tell you if it is an SD or SSD easily enough.

Yes, definitely a SSD! Looks to be in fine condition, too. Congratulations!

Your frame number fits into the sequence of 'second batch' bikes, i.e those with frame numbers starting 950 (and homolgation code DM 900SD DGM 19139) which seem to have been made in late 1979 and imported into the UK in 1980.

Other numbers that I know of are: 191, 198, 217, 226, 313, 320, 487, 502, 513.

(It still has the original footpeg location, tho', as this wasn't changed until frame number 950 762).

thanks for the info , was a little confused about frame and engine nos, and the location of footpegs as i did read that they changed for later bikes which from the date of registration i assumed mine was. I wasnt overly fussed on originality as shes a lovely bike anyhow but its nice to know she is original.

Craig booth my SSD both 80's still have the original rear peg location both are US models and frame numbers of 950 and both only 54 frame numbers apart , It might well be that somewhere down the track of this bike had the early gear change fitted! I have not seen a late SSD with early peg and change levers fitted, have you ?

No, I've never seen a late SSD with the pegs retro-fitted to the earlier position. Can't see why anyone would do it, honestly.

So are you saying that both your bikes have the footpegs in the early position, i.e. tight to the bottom rear corner of the side panel?

If yes, that goes against what the parts book says (Ha! Should we be surprised? No, of course not!)
