Which battery?

Dear All,
I restored my old `76 860 GT cafe racer and
installed a new 12V 7 Ah battery last year. Unfortunately
it broke down completely after only one year.
I know that its capacity is below the standard 12 Ah.
It seems like it has been overcharged.
However, the generator and voltage regulator seem to work fine.
Has anyone encountered similar problems?
Any recommendations on a specific product?
My battery case is limited to a size of about 135x120x75mm (WxHxD).
Maybe a new technology AGM type battery with a higher capacity could
solve the problem.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Cheers and kind regards

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your kind attention.
The SVR 14 AGM seems the best choice for me
although I would have to remove the rubber tray.
Now looking for the product here in Germany.
Too bad you don't ship them to Europe.
By the way : I tried to order some carb parts via
your shop but my shopping cart showed an empty status
though I had added the parts to the cart. Any idea?
Thanks and kind regards

Kuki,
From long experience, Ducatis boil the battery dry, even when everything's set up fine. Like you, I'm too far away to get one of Steve's batteries, so I'd be interested to know if you found an EU stockist.
I checked my bike a couple of weeks ago ('75 900ss with 200W alternator), and with the engine running the battery was getting 14.3 Volts.
With the lights on this went up to 14.8V - not what I was expecting! It seems the regulator over-responds to increased load, although I'd welcome other views on this!
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy,
sorry to disappoint you. I've searched for these specific batteries
in Germany only to find out that the manufacturer doesn't
have a dealer over here.
I'm presently using a small VARTA 12 V 7Ah gel battery (bloody expensive, about 200 US$).
To your problem: I am not quite sure about the charging characteristics.
Maybe you should check the manual ( This great site has them all !!! ).
Cheers and have a nice weekend !
Kuki
P.S.: I just found a nearby dealer for the WestCo batteries.
His shop's closed for the weekend.
I will inform you next week if I can get it!

Hi Andy,
I phoned the only WestCo dealer in Germany to find out
that he only sells the ones that fit into their Mazda cars.
No chance for the 12V12B-4, sorry!
Cheers and kind regards
