On a 78 SD Darmah, what is the torque setting for the front wheel spindle nut? How about the clamp bolts?
Thanks! Scott in Florida

Scott, I use tight and snug respectivly. It probably amounts to about 40 and 15ftls.

Hi Scott,
Torque settings for Ducatis can be difficult to find ... in which case, what I do is to pick a similar bike and use whatever is given for it.
So, for example, for the nuts you're talking about, the recommended values quoted for the Laverda RGS (same forks, same wheels) are:
Axle: 52-59 ft/lb
Fork clamp bolts: not specified.
Normally, when there's no value quoted for a specific bolt, it's because it's no different from the standard value for a 8.8 bolt of the given diameter (in this case, I suggest this is because these bolts are not especially stressed - they just need to stay done up

).
And the standard setting for a 8.8 bolt, 8mm x 1.25, is 29 Nm or 21 ft/lb.
P.s For these bolts, I always use nylocs.

Hi Scott,
Not surprisingly, it's the same as the front
Ciao
Craig
(It's the same size bolt made from the same grade steel with the same pitch thread doing the same job = same torque.)

Wow!

My rears are WAY over-tight!

I hope I haven't overloaded the bearings
Thanks to Craig!
