Hi there !

I have a few questions regarding the mufflers for my Darmah:

1. my old Conti mufflers are a little crappy (dents, scratches.....). Is it possible to fix them and chrome plate them a second time ? I wonder, if the galvanics do handle a used muffler since it is full of dirt indide.

2. How much is a used good condition Conti muffler on the market ?

3. I own a set of Lafranconi mufflers as well. You can feel more torque at lower revs, but less power at higher revs - compared to the Contis.
To get a little more power and more sound, I was told by an experienced Ducati dealer to drill the Lafranconis with a long drill (~ ø 1") through the first section sheet (from outlet side). Has anybody done that ? How is the result ?

I dont know about the chrome platers in Germany ,but here in Australia they do re-chrome them they plug them up , I sending a set out in a little while , small scratches are taken care of with the copper base , larger dents a good metal worker can pull them out , end result a better than new finish

Prices on Conti's vary but in Germany they do pull good money , contis anywhere else go for around US$300 / 400 each and if you get lucky you can get a set for around $500 mark , I sold a set for that not that long ago and only because I had a brand new set to go on the bike

Have never herd of anyone drilling the mufflers out before and the end result would be something like a blow exhaust I would say I could be wrong and it might work , We shall wait to hear back from you IF you do yours

Guy in Denmark saying it`s very expensive to re-chrome mufflers. There is another thread here somewhere, recent too, about a guy punching the guts out of his Silentiums or Lafronchi`s, can`t remember which but rekons they sound great. Go figure. I can`t seem to find that thread now but it`s in here somewhere.
Plenty of conti`s and replica`s out there. I think Steve on this very site has some for sale. Some times I`ve found it`s easy to go too far with restoration. Some things are best thrown over the left shoulder and buy a new one.
Give the old girl a birthday, get a nice stainless 2 into 1 system and a nice new Conti. She`ll love ya for it!!!!!

I think I did not search properly before

So, I understand it is doable to rechrome, but it is not cheap. I will ask an electro-plating shop here in Germany, how much they will charge.

I wonder why not to manufacture a tapered chrome pipe just to slide over the original Conti to cover all demolitions and to make the muffler a little more silent. Of course the original Conti sign and number would be covered as well .... hmmmm
