reshiming valve timing control shafts

gday all,looking for articles or personal experience in setting up the shims
for the valvetiming control shafts where they go into the support plate
i have a workshop manual,and have looked at others on the net but none seem to give any information about end float! or anything else
this is a 900 wet clutch squarecase engine
any information will be welcomed,
