Why changing the oil often is SO important !

Hi Steve,
I finally got my finger out, and checked that magnetic dipstick I bought
from you for magnetic particles.....
Haven't been riding more that 750 kms since I started using it.
And I must say, the word "sludge" gave me a new meaning. And I now see the need for that centrifugal sludge-trap, and why it is SO important to change oil often !
My Darmah is quite "fresh", as it's only run 10.000 km. from total
overhaul.
All bearings changed, cleaned sludge-trap, new conrods and big-end w/new bearings , 2.oversized pistons, new high capacity oilpump, 3 new gears in the gearbox, new valve guides, valves.
As oil and filter have been changed every 500 kms for the first 2.000 kms, I thought that it would take some time before anything got stuck to the magnet of the dip-stick.
How wrong could I be ??!!
All the sludge attached to the magnet are of magnetic material. Some stuff even fell off when I touched it to get a feel of what it was.
Show the pictures to anyone who don't believe that it is of GREAT importance to change oil often, please....

Thanks for posting those photos etc - yes I agree with you, I feel these dipsticks with the magnetic ends are VERY important and helpful.

I would be expecting to see more iron sludge than normal after a rebuild as everything beds in. That doesn’t change the fact that you are right regarding the need for regular oil changes. With the viscosity loss due to the shearing action of the gears, and the build up of acids in the oil brought on by the combustion process, there are very real needs for regular changes even without particulate build up.
