anyone know what that bike sold for??

it looked like it was priced to go OS, USA or europe somewhere.

Those dollars are too high for OZ, or seem to be.

maybe I have had my head down for a while

The way the bevel prices are going nothing surprises me anymore. Kinda makes me wonder where it`s all going to. If you had of quoted some of the prices around to me 5-6 years ago I would have laughed in your face. The next 5-6?????? Who knows, they are only getting rarer and people are only holding on to them even tighter. People used to snicker at me and my cantakerous bag of bevel gears now they gather round in awe and breath..............ooooooooo, it`s a Dookati................I guess they`re success in the GP and the status of the 10 and now 1198 have helped put them on the map. Lock the sheds and pay up the insurance. Soon you`ll be posting an armed gaurd at the old girl while you go in for a beer.........

I think people are holding on to them tighter and that people have been willing to pay higher and higher prices for these machines more recently. I am not sure that they are getting rarer and rarer, infact I would think that at this stage anyone with one or parts of one are more likely to restore or hang on and then sell as opposed to parting out or plain old sticking in the bin, like everything that is now soght after the rot has stopped, they are now out of shed.

This is not a post to insite arguement, however, I'm no sure about the prices from here, I don't think they will continue to increase like they have over the last few years - I think peoples attitudes have changed regarding the spending of $$$. I could be completely wrong of course and lets hope I am given the $$ we have parked in these wonderful machines. Remember, you only make $$$ if you sell, if you don't sell then you don't realise the $$$.

I`m sure the past booming economy has more than a little to do with the price hike. I understand that in Australia 08 saw some sort of new record in motor cycle sales. Maybe when bikes are getting more popular the need for something a little different, a little left of centre becomes more desirable. It will be interesting to see what the future brings.
I guess in a way it`s nice to see the price rise and our investment appreciate. Then again something inside me, maybe the paranoid side of me says I wish they did`nt. I`ve been riding these bikes for so long now and ride them because I understand them and enjoy the way they operate. Ridiculous prices mean higher insurance, theft becomes more of an issue. Somehow I liked them being a little more off beat. I see the crazy prices they bring and get silly thoughts about flogging one or both and getting something you press the button and ride away..........imagine that..........I hear they`re out there. Nah, ain`t gunna happen.

I suppose you can say they are getting rarer, ie they dont make them any more.
They are, and always have been, a desirable machine, particularly the early SS
Possibly part of the "baby boomer" phenomenon, these were the bikes of our youth, and if you were not a so called 1% "er, or identified with that style of biking, the ducks were the desirable, non jap bike.

Now as we age, having a toy, or a couple of toys to play with, that you dont rely on for everyday transport, dont have to ride in the rain etc is a great thing to do, lots of fun, and a very social pastime. It is great that they appreciate whilst we play with them.

although the comment I made about every day transport is not completely true. During a recent period of non permanent work, when I had lost my company car, I rode my GT everyday up into the hills around here, to help a friend build his house.
About 38 k's each way for about 4 months, only problem I had was when I blew a fuse for no apparent reason.

I still think that sort of money is really rich for a GT as they were much more common than the sport or ss

Yes, prices are getting up there. It is interesting to look at prices of vintage bikes and cars in comparison. I know a number of people in the vintage bike scene, including historic racing. Clearly rare vincents etc are highly prized. But look outside that, and prices of old bikes are relatively cheap compared to bevels. You can buy a very nice Ariel or Norton for far less than a bevel. One older vintage/veteran afficianado said to me that once the buyres time goes beyond the machine your Dad had, the prices start to drop for all but the most exclusive. I think he's probably right. Right now we have a bubble caused by 40 - 55 year old's buying the bikes of their youth. Will it last??? Who knows. IN the meantime, insure it, forget the value and enjoy the ride!

So does anyone know what that bike ended up selling for??

You know when an employee of a well known vintage / classic Ducati parts supplyer in Melbourne is asking customers whether they know of any GT's around for sale (as what was asked from me a couple of weeks ago) that these bikes ARE getting thin on the ground.

I noticed a 74(??) 750GT in bits and incomplete sold on ebay in Australia recently for a little over AUD$20,000. This isn't the only similar sale that I have seen and is only one example...

It used to be that any Ducati would elicit oohs and aahs from people.Part of that was from the perception by many that anyone who would buy such a tempremental and exotic machine has a few screws loose. I remember listening to a load of crap from a Honda 750 owner about how worthless Ducatis are. How many 75 Hondas do you see selling for more than $200 ?The success of the belt drive models has driven the Ducati name more mainstream as the cool and sexy people have rushed to get the latest carbotanium billet jewelery for their garages. A Desmosedici or 1198 R is only a checkbook scribble away and will draw crowds when parked, Until a nice Beveldrive shows up! We who are Ultra cool and Beyond sexy will be able to resist the waving checkbooks at least until 1 bike will allow a comfortable retirement nestegg. :lol:

An interesting way of looking at it wdietz186. The bike that has kept me working all these years may one day bring me a comfortable retirement. I gotta say, nothing surprises me anymore, who knows where it`s all going............
