SOLD ON eBAY! WILL LEAVE PICS UP FOR A WHILE MAYBE THERE IS SOME INTEREST IN THE STAMPINGS. Full stamping reads "-BORRANI-WM-2/1.85-19/40 RECORD RM-01-4403 /CROSS/ MADE IN ITALY" This is the less flared on non-flared later style. I do not know what the 'cross' designation means. Falloon's books only state the rim size and number & not very clear as to how the full stamping should read.
It is my understanding that the *cross* designation refers to rims that are built with a thicker cross section and therefore are a bit stronger; perhaps for use off-road. To that end, years ago I weighed my stock rear 4626 and my spare 4626 cross. And my stock 4403 and my spare 4403 cross. The *cross* rims were heavier. I have dented a front 4403 in the past so I laced the spare 4403 cross to the front. The stock front 19in. 4403 weighs 3lb. 10¾oz. My spare 18in. 4626 cross weighs 4lb. 10¼oz. The weights for the rims currently laced up and on the bike are unavailable. .
Thanks for the info. You are lucky to have two sets of Borranis, I am still working on one set. Decided to go with 18 front so I am still looking for a match. Check out the pics in my post 'stampings' under wheels and tires. The rim I have is stamped "MADE ITALY B" wonder if this is just a mistake?
