Re: Failure upshifting from 2nd gear

Thanks all!
I will check the gear selector assy for proper operation/lube.
Anything specific to look for?
I believe I can investigate the proper operation of the shifter drum and forks by removing the gear
selector assy and rotating the shifter drum manually and run thru the gears. At least that ...

Re: Failure upshifting from 2nd gear

thanks Bruce
I'll look into the spring condition.
Would it allow normal operation at first then cause the problem after engine/clutch
gets warmer after a few (5) miles?

Failure upshifting from 2nd gear

Recently I had my 75 860GT out on a ride and could not shift from 2nd to 3rd after a few miles.
Downshifts ok.
When first starting out for a miles, all shifts up and down thru the gears is fine but after a while.....no upshift.
This has started only recently.
I was thinking it has something to do ...

Re: What's up with all the bevel's being "broken" on eBay?

Tom,
I agree it is a sad time for the 860 GT being parted out.
But you MUST get yours on the road again!
I recently was prompted by a friend of mine to resurrect my 75 860GT which had been stored in my
garage for the past 15+ years. I bought it from another buddy in 1980. He was the original owner ...

Re: Reccommended Oil Viscosity

Thanks for the info.
I was talking with Steve and he mentioned that I need to stay with an oil with an "SG" rating.
The automotive oil I have been using (Castrol GTX) doesn't have this rating but the motorcycle version does.
So as you say, I'll switch to the SG rated motorcycle oil.

Ride safe,

Rob

Reccommended Oil Viscosity

I have always used Castrol GTX 20-50w in my 75 860GT.
And I have never used a "motorcycle" oil...
Recently I was reading about some owners who use straight 50w.
Will running the mono-grade oil be better for the older engines?
I have developed a leak at the kickstarter shaft that I will deal with ...

Hello from Concord CA

Hello to all fellow Ducati lovers.

I am the proud owner of an early 1975 860GT (engine #850358) that I have owned
since 1980 after I bought it from my good friend Ian after he retired it from racing @ Sears Point.

I am in the process of dusting it off after about 15 years of sitting in my garage ...
