Removed head and barrel last night to find several reasons for heaps of blue smoke.

Valves have a little play in the guides but not excessive, the valves were not leaking. Exhaust seal very hard and clearly leaking oil into the exhaust port. There was a 1,83 mm shim on the exhaust valve so suppose ...

Yes that's the one. Maybe with heaps of luck I'll find one in Italy one day.. At least I know exactly what it looks like, thanks Craig.

Craig,

What I need the the light switch that sits on the l/h side of the headlight, not the ignition switch.
It's a mostly metal affair that looks a little like a key in a lock but basically just a three position switch only. The Honda item that is in there now works fine but has to go as you can ...

The thread is in good condition, but think a thread bush was placed in there. I too noticed that the ring doesn't go in as far as it normally should, may be 2 reasons:
* I fitted a brass exhaust gasket ring from a Laverda
* I think the down pipe has a rather wide 'ring' at the end.

Everything is ...

Was wondering if the big-end is the engine's Achilles-heel just like the twins?

Here pic of the dashboard after tidying, replaced light/horn switch by a replica Aprilia switch (bit flimsy quality, wonder how long it will live).

Also a better pic of the cylinder head where you can clearly see there ...

Oh yes, on the horns topic, mine carries a Voxbell which is pretty OK I think, think these late models had one of those instead of the CEV?

Yes, it's almost fluorescent yellow Craig, came with the bike. matches thew paintwork perfectly.. 8)
Cavis Benz is just a matter of time..

Right now I'm buzy in the electrical department, freeing the bike of excessive wiring (all kinds of relays, blinkers etc. The ignition switch was mounted on ...

Here's a pic of the engine with tank removed. Nothing there..
Anyway, very pleased that it starts so well now, just putting my (not excessive :) ) weight on the kickstarter is sufficient to fire up and idle.

Very pretty 450 you got there Kev, does the Spanish Amal function well? 2 of my Laverda ...

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the various links, always useful! In November I will be at the Novegro market, who knows maybe I find something there. Clearly the rear mudguard is a hard to get item because I have seen many pics of bikes where the original item is missing.

Re the valve lift, I am going to ...

After fitting a 50 idle jet the engine fired up at the very first kick and immediately had a slow and steady idle.. Happy!

Now I need to get hold of the prescribed V7 needle instead of the V13 that is fitted, the 450 runs a bit shaky in the needle area..

There really is no valve lifter on the ...

Well Craig, the idle jet is a 60 so maybe that explains the difficult starting. Before contemplating modifications I first want to make it a healthy runner, and starter.. For me it's easier to push start a Laverda Corsa on any surface than to fire up this tiny yellow moped..

Kev, the ...

Hi 'Craig from UK',

Likewise nice to see you here, didn't know you have Ducatis too. Didn't know that!

The single is smoking like hell, oil coming from the exhaust port. Have to find out if it's something trivial as an exhaust seal leaking (it does) a matter of the inlet valve seal, worn oil ring ...

Thanks Steve,

Took a moment to figure out how to show a picture but here she is..

Believe the bike has a history in Germany because it had the common 'Ochsenaugen' blinkers on the clip-ons.
Basically it's a 250, yet with a 450 Mark3 engine.

The engine smokes which may worn piston ring and/or the ...

Laverdist exploring Ducati Bevel Single

Hi,

Just registered because I just purchased my very first Ducati, a Tartarini 450 bevel single.

During the past 34 years I have been very involved in the Laverda scene and I still active as custodian of the Int. Laverda 750 SFC Owners Registry and board member of the Dutch Laverda Club. There ...
